Explore creative techniques such as tie-dye, painting with dyes, and printing with materials like shaving cream, tissue paper and ice. No prior experience is needed—just bring your imagination! You'll leave with a beautiful, one-of-a-kind silk scarf, and the skills to continue experimenting at home. Perfect for all skill levels, this workshop is a great way to unwind while discovering the art of textile embellishment in a relaxed, friendly environment.  

Students should bring a $6 materials fee payable to the instructor.

Acadian Arts Asian Fusion Cooking Retreat – Campobello

Your instructor, Chris Toy, is the author of 6 popular cookbooks, a private chef, and has taught Asian-fusion cooking for several Maine community education programs. Cooking students will learn how to prepare a variety of recipes from Asia, Europe, and the Americas incorporating traditional and local ingredients. Each meal will actively engage cooks with the tools, techniques, and stories behind the dishes being created.

Step back to a time when President Franklin Roosevelt, Eleanor, and their family escaped to their “beautiful little island” in the Canadian Maritimes, Campobello Island. We will be exclusive guests of the international park, staying in historic Victorian cottages. Workshop participants will explore and paint the same coastal scenery enjoyed by the summer residents at the turn of the 20th century. All meals are included in the workshop fee as well as specially planned optional eveningactivities designed to extend your learning from the day’s workshops. Register forthe retreat then call Sherry Mitchell at 506-752-2922 to make room reservations. Ceramics: Textural, Handbuilt Pots

Students will explore the ceramic technique of handbuilding to create unique, sculptural, textured vessels. Starting with a ball of clay, participants will learn the basics of pinching and shaping, while incorporating a variety of textures such as carving, stamping, and rolling to enhance their designs. Emphasis will be placed experimenting with different patterns, textures, and surface treatments. By the end of the class, students will have crafted their own expressive, one-of-a-kind pinch pots (up to 3 or 5), gaining a deeper appreciation for the tactile process of pottery and a better understanding of how texture enhances the form and aesthetic of ceramic works.

There is still a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation about Maine's compassionate end-of-life care option. Many providers and patients in Maine are not familiar with Maine's Death with Dignity Act. Since September 2019, the law permits physicians to practice medical aid-in-dying under specific circumstances. Learn the facts and, if qualified, the right to access medical aid in dying if they choose. Join this class to get fact-based information and the details you need to know about Maine's law, how to have the conversation with your physician, how to qualify for the law and support your loved one who may be qualify.
