Maine Driving Dynamics (Driver Safety)

The Maine Driving Dynamics course is a driver improvement course that is designed to improve a student's defensive driving awareness. This five-hour course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. Our goal is to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce vehicle-related crashes. A student who completes the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record and may be eligible for insurance discount. Please bring your driver’s license.

Your instructor, Chris Toy, is the author of 6 popular cookbooks, a private chef, and has taught Asian-fusion cooking for several Maine community education programs. Cooking students will learn how to prepare a variety of recipes from Asia, Europe, and the Americas incorporating traditional and local ingredients. Each meal will actively engage cooks with the tools, techniques, and stories behind the dishes being created.

Step back to a time when President Franklin Roosevelt, Eleanor, and their family escaped to their “beautiful little island” in the Canadian Maritimes, Campobello Island. We will be exclusive guests of the international park, staying in historic Victorian cottages. Workshop participants will explore and paint the same coastal scenery enjoyed by the summer residents at the turn of the 20th century. All meals are included in the workshop fee as well as specially planned optional eveningactivities designed to extend your learning from the day’s workshops. Register forthe retreat then call Sherry Mitchell at 506-752-2922 to make room reservations. Nature Journaling

Nature journaling is a creative and reflective practice that involves observing the natural world and recording your experiences through writing, drawing, and sketching. In this class, students will be introduced to watercolor journaling, capturing nature on paper using pen and ink and watercolors. We’ll first spend some time honing our drawing skills and learn about the properties of watercolor painting. Then we’ll work in our watercolor journals sketching and painting the natural world around us. Students should bring a $10 materials fee payable to the instructor.
